SolidBluR Review
Although I'm not giving you a top score for this (let's face it, this is a beginners-flash) I will give you a decent review. Since I am feeling a bit nice today, I'll even make it a good one.
Where do we start? Oh yes, the infamous stickproblem. Many people here at newgrounds have a bad stick-attitude. There are those of you who have seen just about enough stick movies, and who can't quite stop bitching about how much you hate them and how much time you throw away watching them. But the fact is, you DO wanna watch them, thats why you DO waste your time, clicking that "watch this movie" button. Anyway, stickmovies have become one of the biggest trademark of NG, just as clock-movies. I canæt say I like clockmovies, but I respect them enough to say that I won't watch them if I don't feel like it, nor will I give it a bad vote or review because it is clock.
Now, stickmovies are quite cool because everytime you see one, you might see something totally original when it somes to graphics, fightscenes, humor etc. There is a little "battle of the best stick-movies" thing going on here, and I really like it. This movie might not be the best there is, but hell, at least he gave it a shot, eh?
Graphics: Sorry to disappoint you man, but this department needs work. The sticks are pretty basic, and look kinda..stiff..without that right "kung-fu" apperance. No stances or anything like that. And the animation and framerate could also need a boost in the right direction. The thing I did like, was the attempt at creating a different scenery. Running through the desert was more original than the usual grey background. And using a cactus as a deadly trap was original, and went well with the scenery. Then, eventually coming to a city. Nice.
Style: Well, it's pretty much all been done before. You tried some original fighting, but with the static animation (with that I mean "non-fluid". I'm from Norway, sue me) it's often hard to tell what move is being made. And I got really dissappointed when I saw the xiaoxiao rip-off moves. You could have done without that.
Sound: I really can't say anything about the sound, because where I am now, I can't hear any. So I must just put a 5 there and hope I'm not too far off. Don't be too glad though. You may not deserve it =)
Interactivity: Well..the only interactivity I found was the ability to "Play" the movie, but as far as I'm concerned, you don't need that much interactivity to a movie. Scene selections are nice, even frame-by-frame control, but not neccecary. Anyway, having a playbutton means 1 for interactivity in my book.
Humor: Wasn't too much of that was it? Except for that last guy before the boss, where he got hit in the face with the sword stuck in the wall...nice..original too. Kudos.
Overall: A good movie if you concider yourself a beginner. It wasn't too short either, and I'm sure you did your best. I'm saving my 10 for a xiaoxiao beater, but intil then, keep working, and one day you might get it.
