Professional indeed

Congratulations, you just made the new #1 flash at Newgrounds. This is an amazing piece of animation. Some of the scenes were so detailed I could have examined them for hours. The movement was fluid, the expressions priceless, the story and setting seems to be worthy of a big screen adaptation. I simply can't wait to see where this goes. It's a bloody shame that it takes forever to make such a great flash.

One of the tings that keeps drawing me back to this film is the brilliant feelgood-music found about 2/3 in. Where they get ready to take off in their wooden spaceship. The whole concept of wooden ships (mmm.. jefferson airplane) being maneuvered through the air using magic was really cool and pulled off exceptionally well with the music. I've shown it to a few friend and it always brings a smile to peoples faces.

All in all; great work. I'm honored to be sharing the front page with you this week :) Keep it up, you're going places.

Thank you VERY much for the thoughtful review man!

Amazing art

You have a real talent when it comes to background painting, that's for sure. Was it a mixture of scans/photoshop and flash? Although nothing really happened, it was a good way of depicting a desolate place where nothing happens anymore. Is it an official job? I'd love to see something else by you with more of a story.

adwau responds:

None of this project was scanned, the only original hand-drawings I did were for storyboarding. I illustrated all the more detailed static background elements using Illustrator, then imported the outlines across into Photoshop, where I colored them. The clouds were done enitrely in photoshop, and the animated elements (the birds, rats etc) were drawn and animated frame-by-frame directly in Flash.

I've got a few more projects in mind which I'll submit to Newgrounds, all with actual stories! The only question is when I actually get them finished. Thanks for the feedback!

Fun, not perfect.

It was wellmade, and shows huge potential, but my main complaint is that it really wasn't that funny. The start ruined it for me, with the poophumor and the sexphones. I liked the part with "use the stinger you have in your pocket". Here you acctually use the game's "weakness" to give us a laugh, the others weren't metal gear-jokes at all. Greyfox cheated? Um, ok..funny? Well, I'm sure loads of people will find it funny though, we can't all have the same taste =) I need just a tad more though in jokes.

The voiceacting could have used some talent. Some were embarrasing, some were ok (like liquid, that one worked)

I did like it however, just so you know =) But it could have been so much more fun. Seems like you've just decided to make a parody, without having alot of ideas to jokes, so you've had to make them along the way. I hope your next movie will have that last "ummph" jokewise.

Good job, keep going, cheers.

smiffy-uk responds:

Thanks for the in depth review.

I tried mixing up the jokes between Metal Gear jokes and regular jokes so people who haven't seen Metal Gear could still enjoy it. =)

=)

First of all, this movie should be called "Spriggan Revisited", since quite a few characters reminded me of this movie, most of all Barb and the watermelonguy. Haven't seen the last half of Spriggan, so I don't know much more.

Anyway, let's cut to the chase, this was a good movie, very funny at times(I loved the dancing) and long as well. Can't say I liked the harry potter look, but it's original at least, so I'm ok with it. A little less harry potter and you'd have a REALLY original character. And if you plan on making more of these, please let him use the sword =)

Godlimations responds:

Yeah, next part is gonna be a blast (coming in 2005) thanks for the mighty awesome review :)

=)

Yes the grahics were ok, but the animation was the real showstopper. Really smooth looking. And in my opinion it's much better to have a movie with smooth animation than heavy graphics. A mix of both would be nice, for once. I'm gonna try that.

Make more, this is fukkin cute. Just make 'em longer.

Sherbalex responds:

hehe 'fukkin cute'.

=)

Hey, this looks cool, is swift and smooth, and the music is awsome! Finally someone who finds a great song that ISN't propellorheads or anything else matrix. You did a really good job here, it's entertaining and pretty long! They just keep getting better and better. Only complaint I have is that the movement of the characters, although smooth and original, could pherhaps been better with more moving bodyparts, and poses, medi-realistic moves from ime to time etc. They have a tendency to look like rotating stars. But it still looks awsome, mind =) Great job!

GAMECUBICLE responds:

Thanks... But its really hard to let there bodyparts move seperatly.... I can do that if i make my characters like the ones you see at the end (you know what i mean, but i dont want to spoil it for others)
But that is just much harder to draw. Well, thanks for the 8!.

Really sad

I get really sad when I see these kind of things. Allthough the start might be your own, all the animation done in the fightscenes etc was copied directly from movies like the matrix, spiderman, concussion etc. And stop messing up with the Equilibrium-effects.

But to the sad part: You said this was a study of movements, but the only thing you did was copy movements. At least during the fighting.

But the REALLY sad part is that you are acctually getting credit from 13-16 year olds who don't notice this, and think you are a flash genious who has used years and years of practice to do this.

Why they fail to see the obvious is beyond me, but it's really sad. Because I belive that everyone at NG should be rated fairly, and when other people (who acctually ANIMATE and THINK for themselves) gets left behind and maybe doesn't looses an award because of you, then you piss me off.

Ofcourse you put work into this, but it's no more than a "test" in my opinion. It has no story other than the one you stole from genryus blade, and the voiceacting is bad, as are the soundeffects.

If you had acctually told people what you did, tracing other movies and copying scripts, giving them credit etc, then I would be fine with that ,and I'd give you better scores and a much nicer review. But the fact is, you didn't, and you're a real bitch because of that.

NuttyBanana responds:

READ THE AUTHORS COMMENT U MARDY LITTLE PRICK

just because you're doing jack shit with those 2 bit xiao xiao matrix rip off stick movies, dont come crying to me when u ignore that facts.

You may not like my score..

..but it's because all of this is taken from other movies...simply drawn over. We have the matrix, concussion, spiderman, a jet li movie i belive and some others that I can't remember the name of. There is no story, voice acting is terrible and sound effects too, and the final blow where the "bad guy" is cut in two is so incredibly overdone.

You have loads of talent, but absolutely no confidence or ideas of your own.

NuttyBanana responds:

omfg do you people even bother with the authors comments?

Never even head of concussion and why the fook would i use spiderman in there? My project required me to study other movies fgs, i sketched them for the reason i sed, i didnt trace.

Funny.

Can someone tell me where I can find a video of that apparently famous star wars kid? Been wanting too see that for ages.

Anyway, this movie was cool, and I really liked the way you fought the 3d-sword, it was really well done. I think that 8-9 shots was far too little in the last 180 swing, you should jump a little more with your dad. It can't be that hard =)

And furthermore, about all these dudes ripping the movie off because they think you're a geek... they're ignorant little pricks, trying to raise themselves above you because they still hide themselves behind nicks like maxxxdamadge, kjdiablo etc..
You know, those 15-yearolds with eminem-posters all over their room and a computer that says -=HellDemonSlayoR=- on the case. I'm so glad whip their ass and do your own thing.

Well done.

Balister responds:

http://www.starwarskid.com/ that is where you can find the stuff related to the starwars kid. Thank you for your support and the next time we do this with an actual storyline, thought probibly not what you will expect, and alot more of the 180 shots to make it look smoother.

EM Review

Just to lay it out there: This is a hard one to review.

First of all, graphics are good, not spectacular. You have a talent for drawing, but your shadows and characters look a little "brown", and I'm sure with better coloring, it would have looked helluva lot nicer. But you draw alot of different angles on the main character and he moves, if not realistically, cool.

The story was a bit braindead. I think we shoud have a pull here in the review section: what was on the cd he inserted?

Windows 95?
Enter the Matrix?
Foamy dvd?

The mainframe is sure to crash anyway, but still, imagination is good. What do you all think he put in there? =)

Sound was ok, no music, unless you played it really really low.
Action was cool, although the scene where he comes from the roof and it looks as if he is in front of his enemy kinda looks corny.

Ok, I'd advise you to pherhaps make it a bit slower, more realistic (movement etc), work on your story, and ofcourse...your use of colors.

3/5

teek-83 responds:

thanks for the review, I think you nailed the achilles heel of this. I sorta wanted to draw a tough dude kicking other dudes about... I had absolutley no ideas of why this guy had to get in, I kinda thought breaking into a high-tech lab (with a 50's mainframe ;P) for its own sake would be even less engaging. Whats on the cd... oooh a mystery, it could very well be win 95 but I wanted this guy to be tough, not evil!:D <ahem> So I sorta used 'virus' in the title to fill that gap in the story <blush> I guess it was pretty obvious tho huh? As for the colour, I used flash's step away from black, on my ol' monitor looked fine, but as I've recently found out it doesnt handle colour all that well, meep, no excuse!! cheers

I'm here to review your work. And to one fine day rule the top 50.
