Well, although I could have cried, I just didn't feel like it, being at work and all. But still, very good, although I usally end up sick after watching an "emotional" movie like this. Luckily you avoided alot of cliches and it turned out surprisingly good. Kudos.

EM Review

Another zombie-movie has been released, and is scoring high at the box-office, holding the #5 spot at the top 50. But is it really all it's hyped up to be? We take a closer look at SPLANKGY's newest horror-flick.

First things first. The graphics are better this time, and the typos are gone (almost). It's still no long movie, just like the previous ones, but it's definately worth the wait. The storyline this time is....well...too short to spoil. Just go watch it. And in the meantime, I'll brag about the graphics.

Because it's pretty. It's oh so darn pretty. I'm guessing you used a drawing tablet, but hey, if you didn't, then you are one skilled mouse drawer, or just really patient. I mean, the detail used in some of the models is pretty amazing, and I know you were worried that no one would notice all the time you put inhto the details, but belive me, even if they don't notice EVERYTHING, then they WILL notice that you put a lot of time into it. I didn't even have to start the movie to know that it would look drop dead zombie incredible (can't spell gorgeous..or can I?) The mainscreen/intro was looking sweeet. I do belive we share the same taste in drawings. A bit of fucked up drawings. Wich is good.

While we are bragging, I'd like to compliment the spooky setting you throw us into. It's easy to get a little spooked when you see the first zombie hopping out (They also look incredible, mind). When the first one gets blown away, there is a great deal og details shown in his face, or atleast it looks like it is, but it's moving fast fast fast, so I couldn't see all clearly.
Anyway, as long as it looks good to me I'm happy.
And it did.
So I'm happy.

But alas (I swear I'm not a lotr fan) not everything is perfection. This movie, although good, is way...way too short. And there is fairly little animation too, so I'm guessing most of the time is spent drawing. But really, when I suddenly realised that...thats all...I became a little frustrated. I was getting relaxed, started to really enjoy the movie, and the chair was warming up nicely..when it stopped! I mean the nerve! All respect for your drawing skills, but you need to make it longer.

But ok, let's forget it's short. Hm...wait...there is another thing bothering me. No voice acting! I can see your problem if you have absolutely no one to help you, bue still, it would have been nice.

Sound and music could have been better too, although the retro horror-souns are good.

Overall, this is a good, but not great movie, and should definately be on the top 50. Not above Bitey of Brackenwood, but just below. The length would be more appropriate for a preview than a movie, but it's absolutely worth a look. Keep'em coming dude, but not THAT fast.

I'm gonna work hard to beat you with my first non-stick, hellsing inspired movie :) See you on the battlefield, soldier.

SPLANKGY responds:

Wow....indeed....where to start..hmm.

1- glad you liked it! thanks!
2- i have a tablet, but i can't use it for crap. i just use a mouse and my laptop touchpad thingy...
3- yes, the shortness has been an issue since the very beginning. But if you put them all together like one movie (which it is) then it's pretty long right?
4- check out the last post for the explaination of the voice acting thingy...
5- top 50 of all time? how in the hell did that happen? and yes, this is NOT better than Bitey o' B in any way for sure! I didn't even see it on there until you said in the review! i honestly didn't think my cartoons would get onto that, (alright i hoped, and would have been psyched to get on at #50. thanks a whole lot to everyone on NG!!!!!!!0
6- I'll be waiting

thanks alot!

Hehehe

I find some of your replies to heavy criticism funny, like the "I see you joined NG today" comment...great stuff =)

Anyway, this is not my typical flashfavorite. Spritemovies have never really done it for me, I see them as usally lacking in the originality-department. I myself have created stickfights though, wich is not original, yet I try to be in ways of moves (at least in my newest movies)

Thing is, sprites I have seen before.
The music I have heard before.
The action (if I can call it that) have been seen before.
And though I liked your history, about them being caught on the island and stuff (must say I liked the main characters story the most), it's not really doing any impact on me, like all the other great movies; Bitey of Brackenwood, Smile, Los Dias Sin Dias, hitchhiker, even Xombie.

Although this must have taken quite some time to make, and I can see that your hard work went into this as you are (quite quite quite possibly) a big fan of FF, it doesn't really have the *UMPH*...the impact on you, like all these other movies. It's nice to hear the FFmelodies again, and to get a little 8bit chill down our spine, but really...honestly...not frontpage material.

And that leads me to another question:
These guys why pick out the frontpagetitles here at NG has to have a real love for 8bit movies, since they always get the glory on frontpage. Fact is, these are not usally incredibly wellmade movies, and I think they only get so much space there because the creators of NG have good memories from the "good old times". These people should look more around and find other movies that deserve frontpage.

Personally, while I can still enjoy a 8bit-flash, I'm pretty bored with all the sprites and the plinky plonky music. And I'm sure that I'm not the only one. Just seems like its popular to like the old stuff, just cause it's "cool".

I have not been trying to be offesive at all, so if you find me to be offensive, then I apologize. I think this movie was pretty good, and I advice you to keep up the good work.

Just not my box of baked noodels.

PS: were you influenced by mortal kombat at any point in creating your story?

HAcoreRD responds:

Holy Hell, wat a big responce. Thanks for the review and yes, I was using Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance while making this :)

Nothing too new or interesting

The movie was well done, and I'm sure the story is well-thought out. But it's just not interesting. There is nothing here that's original in any way. The characters are the same we've seen in just about any actionfilm and series thats has been made. This is kinda sad, because you have a real talent when it comes to drawing and working hard (it seems). But:

- The drawings lack the stylish look of an instant classic.
- The story isn't really interesting enough.
- Fightscenes, although nicely drawn, have no real impact, no real flow, and no real entertainment.
- I'm guessing that voices would give you a far better impression of the characters. And the only reason I relate this to FF is beacuse of the textboxes, really.

Even though you must think I'm slaughtering your movie, I'm really not. You are skilled, no doubt. But you should concider making something new, fresh, smooth and entertaining. To tell you the truth, I'm getting a little bored with corrupt goverments and all that, it's been done to death. But thats just me, and I think many people, who really study the storyline/follow the plot etc will greatly appriciate this. Good work.

naz-1 responds:

I appreciate your constructive critism, but seriously man, when you said mine was unoriginal, I took a look at your flash and saw a clone of "Xiao Xiao". Please don't be a hypocrite.

Oh well.

I was excited to see what this movie looked like, after getting so good reviews and scoring so high. But the animation was not impressive at any point and the characters were some of the worst drawn ever. The song was ok, but I'm guessing you didn't make it.

Although I can see that you've gone through much effort making this (wich I think you should continue doing, practice makes...better) I can't really say I was blown away. Animate it like Bitey of Brackenwood and then we'll have something to talk about =)

Anyway, appreciate the effort. You like to work alot with your flash, and thats an absolute plus. Now go study some cool drawings and cartoons, and find a more eyepleasing style.

cheshirepus responds:

Hey, you like sticks with big heads, and I like cute pastels.
Thanks you for the review. I wish you could have appreciated it more, but I'll take the mention of Bitey of Brackenwood as a compliment.
Thanks.

SolidBluR Comment

Pointless really. They're just ugly shapes morphing into other ugly shapes. Whats the point? I could make this in 5 minutes.

Cypher responds:

You do that.

SolidBluR Review

The graphics were awsome, incredibly well drawn! But, the smoothness of it all (hey, I know it's frekkin hard) could have been so much better. 5-7 more fps wouldn't bee to bad either. But great job! I loved the drawings!

Sipho1312 responds:

appreciate it...yea i wish i had a drawing tablet...i made the frame rate slower than usual because i didnt want to draw too many pictures, that mouse drawin, it just wears me out and i dont even have an opitical...

SolidBluR Review

Well, it sucked, no denying that.
You get a plus for the interactivity (frame-by-frame view, replay) but the replay buttons have no real hit-area, so you have to try to hit the god damn font to get anywhere, and I haaate that. Shows lack of experience.

Satoshiji responds:

Yeah yeah yeah. Rating a 2 just because it is stick? I see 1 animation by you. Your batting average sucks, indicating you have submitted alot of crappy entries.

SolidBluR Review

If you wanna make a tribute, then at least make it good. The framerate on this movie is like 20% of the original madness series. And the action is old. And there is no music. And it could have been done in an original way to show people that you made a tribute, but this is just you trying to make something as cool as madness by stealing his stuff and calling it a tribute. I can't stand it.

But hell, @ least you tried, didn't you?

ottermaniac responds:

if i were going to copy madness then i would have called ity madness COPY, not tribute, and yes it gets etter, i just wanted to see what i could improve on, and that you mentioned and im glad.

good day.

SolidBluR Review

First of all, that was incredible. I have noting bad to say about this movie, but I'm not giving it a 10 because of these reasons:

1. The "training" animation at first were great, you just didn't put that much work into the last fightscene.

2. The bossfight was...well...nothing. Next episode?

3. It wen't a bit fast...it started so delicate and slowly, then just went from speed 3 to 10 in a few seconds.

Other than that, this is one of my favorite movies. I was acctually looking forward to submitting Shinobi 2, but after seeing this, I might have to work a bit more on it =)

PeterMurphy responds:

Yeah it does jump from 0 - 60 in millisecs, sorry bout that wont do it again.

I'm here to review your work. And to one fine day rule the top 50.
