SolidBluR Review

Not bad dude. Some of the movements are way better than the usual stickmovies submitted here. And I like the idea of the killer in the woods with nightvision.

However.

The story behind our forest-villain was very hard to read, and the scene where he just walks past his victimes was not neccecary. It often seemed a bit slow. Nothing really new or interesting in the style department either. But keep up the good work.

SolidBluR Review

Although I'm not giving you a top score for this (let's face it, this is a beginners-flash) I will give you a decent review. Since I am feeling a bit nice today, I'll even make it a good one.

Where do we start? Oh yes, the infamous stickproblem. Many people here at newgrounds have a bad stick-attitude. There are those of you who have seen just about enough stick movies, and who can't quite stop bitching about how much you hate them and how much time you throw away watching them. But the fact is, you DO wanna watch them, thats why you DO waste your time, clicking that "watch this movie" button. Anyway, stickmovies have become one of the biggest trademark of NG, just as clock-movies. I canæt say I like clockmovies, but I respect them enough to say that I won't watch them if I don't feel like it, nor will I give it a bad vote or review because it is clock.

Now, stickmovies are quite cool because everytime you see one, you might see something totally original when it somes to graphics, fightscenes, humor etc. There is a little "battle of the best stick-movies" thing going on here, and I really like it. This movie might not be the best there is, but hell, at least he gave it a shot, eh?

Graphics: Sorry to disappoint you man, but this department needs work. The sticks are pretty basic, and look kinda..stiff..without that right "kung-fu" apperance. No stances or anything like that. And the animation and framerate could also need a boost in the right direction. The thing I did like, was the attempt at creating a different scenery. Running through the desert was more original than the usual grey background. And using a cactus as a deadly trap was original, and went well with the scenery. Then, eventually coming to a city. Nice.

Style: Well, it's pretty much all been done before. You tried some original fighting, but with the static animation (with that I mean "non-fluid". I'm from Norway, sue me) it's often hard to tell what move is being made. And I got really dissappointed when I saw the xiaoxiao rip-off moves. You could have done without that.

Sound: I really can't say anything about the sound, because where I am now, I can't hear any. So I must just put a 5 there and hope I'm not too far off. Don't be too glad though. You may not deserve it =)

Interactivity: Well..the only interactivity I found was the ability to "Play" the movie, but as far as I'm concerned, you don't need that much interactivity to a movie. Scene selections are nice, even frame-by-frame control, but not neccecary. Anyway, having a playbutton means 1 for interactivity in my book.

Humor: Wasn't too much of that was it? Except for that last guy before the boss, where he got hit in the face with the sword stuck in the wall...nice..original too. Kudos.

Overall: A good movie if you concider yourself a beginner. It wasn't too short either, and I'm sure you did your best. I'm saving my 10 for a xiaoxiao beater, but intil then, keep working, and one day you might get it.

Well, it sucked, no denying that.
You get a plus for the interactivity (frame-by-frame view, replay) but the replay buttons have no real hit-area, so you have to try to hit the god damn font to get anywhere, and I haaate that. Shows lack of experience.

Satoshiji responds:

Yeah yeah yeah. Rating a 2 just because it is stick? I see 1 animation by you. Your batting average sucks, indicating you have submitted alot of crappy entries.

If you wanna make a tribute, then at least make it good. The framerate on this movie is like 20% of the original madness series. And the action is old. And there is no music. And it could have been done in an original way to show people that you made a tribute, but this is just you trying to make something as cool as madness by stealing his stuff and calling it a tribute. I can't stand it.

But hell, @ least you tried, didn't you?

ottermaniac responds:

if i were going to copy madness then i would have called ity madness COPY, not tribute, and yes it gets etter, i just wanted to see what i could improve on, and that you mentioned and im glad.

good day.

First of all, that was incredible. I have noting bad to say about this movie, but I'm not giving it a 10 because of these reasons:

1. The "training" animation at first were great, you just didn't put that much work into the last fightscene.

2. The bossfight was...well...nothing. Next episode?

3. It wen't a bit fast...it started so delicate and slowly, then just went from speed 3 to 10 in a few seconds.

Other than that, this is one of my favorite movies. I was acctually looking forward to submitting Shinobi 2, but after seeing this, I might have to work a bit more on it =)

PeterMurphy responds:

Yeah it does jump from 0 - 60 in millisecs, sorry bout that wont do it again.

Can't really say I like the humor in this one, and it's not an improvement from nr. 3, more of a downgrade acctually. But it's still great stickfighing. One of the better ones here at NG. The powerfighting is a nice touch, but not your best animation. The effects here are not that impressive, and the powers feel a bit whimpy, except pherhaps the big electric ball that shoots out a fast beam. You have to be able to feel the power of each move. But a good job there Zhu. I'm coming to challenge you in a few months though :)

SolidBluR Review

Well, it WAS kinda short, and I didn't really get the fatality, and the "one-kill-move" was a bit lazy done. But I liked the difficulty setting :p
The end...lol. Funnayh..

Anyway, not the best, nor the worst I've seen. But plz make them a bit longer. You won't score those high marks by submitting this. I mean, I've been working on my new flashmovie for 2 months, and it's only 28% done :)

So...the keyword to getting high scores is "EFFORT".

Sargasm responds:

Yay, someone got the 'easy'-thing ;)
But simplicity being the keyword, I might make more like this! *Evil laughter* >;)

Your first flash?

I loved it, it was really cool =)
Don't have music here @ work, so I gave you..um..6? Anyway, I really liked alot of the effects you made there. Just wished you had concluded it. I don't like flashmovies who are not concluded at first. Why not make chapters with a small ending in every chapter rather than cliffhangers?

But great movie. 4/5

Kashinnu Episode 2

Dude, you should really try to cram in more fps than...what..1? I use 25 frames per second when making my stick-fight movies. How are people supposed to enjoy this? It has too look smooth dude. You should be able to do that, stickppl are so easy to draw. Plus there are so many stickmovie-haters at NG, so I feel that we have to raise the bar a bit, so that more people can enjoy stickmovies.

This doesn't raise any bar,
it just seriously lowers it.

Whatever that last guy said...

I agree.

And for gods sake, if you wanna honor your family who fought in the war, don't do it with a (very...very crappy) flash-movie.

I'm here to review your work. And to one fine day rule the top 50.
